Khan -Ruling the Roost By Ahsan Alavi

Pakistan today can best be defined as Kleptocracy, Kakistocracy or Plutocracy, but definitely not democracy! There's not even semblance of democratic norms and traditions present in the functioning of the state! A country bestowed & blessed with abundant talent and resources,has been caught in the stranglehold of a family comprising of a bunch of vacuous minded,incompetent & inept individuals,best known for their ostentatious lifestyle,courtesy of public tax money!

Not realising the growing public sentiment against him and his family,Nawaz Sharif by not complying to PTI demands, has dented & marred his political future to an extent where a comeback seems pretty much unlikely for him! Imran Khan's meagre demand of recount of 4 halqa's was where it all started from, which then culminated into a long march against electoral fraud and has now morphed into one of the biggest movements for rights! But,more to Imran Khan's credit,It is Nawaz Sharif's consistent ambivalence, indecisiveness and inconclusiveness which has given a new life,colour and spark to this movement! Go Nawaz Go is not only a slogan against Nawaz Sharif anymore. Infact, it has become an expression for outrage against this decadent,debauched and dysfunctional system which Nawaz Sharif represents and the likes of Asif Zardari,Fazl ur Rehman and Altaf Hussain protect!

With Imran Khan striking the right chords, his message is fast spreading all across Pakistan- his critique of the system which has failed to provide relief to the common man, is rightly being equated with PMLN's failure to govern. Hence for many; Nawaz Sharif symbolizes and epitomizes all the ills of the society & system, which, in reality is a result of years of misgovernance! Every Imran Khan jalsa is tormenting an already bruised,blemished and tarnished Nawaz Sharif, but Instead of extinguishing the fire by finding substantive solutions to deal with this quagmire,the best counter strategy PMLN could think of was to exploit the already futile conjecturing in the media vis a vis Dharna which many called ; part of a grand plan, some even labeled it an international conspiracy, where as in reality it was the indefatigableness, tenacity and obstinate belief of a man hellbent on emancipating the nation from the shackles of family fiefdoms. And of course, a special thanks to the mythomanes in governments camp who have continuously misled Nawaz Sharif by painting a very rosy picture of governments abysmal performance on all fronts(Energy,Economy,Foreign policy). The unabashedness with which the ministers & advisers try to defend government's failures,has already and will continue to lead to PMLN's demise!!

PTI's challenge will be to stay persistent in targeting the status quo(PMLN,PPP,MQM) which has already gone haywire trying various tactics to salvage themselves, but it seems this time Khan will not let them off the hook!!
