An Expedition into Naya Pakistan By Anum Pirkhani

Ghulami Mein Na Kaam Ati Hain Shamsheerain Na Tadbeerain

Jo Ho Zauq-E-Yaqeen Paida Tu Kat Jati Hain Zanjeerain

67 years ago, after an intense and passionate struggle for independence, we started with a beacon of hope but today, we stand in oblivion. Our credibility is lost, our territory is violated, our economy is shattered, our state institutions are devastated, public services have deteriorated, corruption and criminality is widespread, poverty and illiteracy is escalating, class disparity is intensifying, demographic pressures are mounting, external actors are intervening and pampering our sovereignty, violation of human rights is at rise, provincial disharmony has fractured the federation, the legitimacy of our dear state is at stake. In short, we have lost our distinction, our self-esteem, our identity in the comity of nations.

Is this the democracy Quaid-e-Azam had envisioned? Is this the state Allama Iqbal dreamt of? Sadly, the spirit of true democracy which is rule of the people, by the people, for the people is entirely forgotten in Pakistan. A rule by factionalized elite with feudal mind-set and a democratic camouflage has been fabricated in Pakistan and people have witnessed all types of rules considered opposite to a democratic rule; autocratic, oligarchic, plutocratic, kleptocratic and dictatorship.

“Democracy cannot consist solely of elections that are nearly always fictitious and managed by rich landowners and professional politicians.” Che Guevara.

According to “Failed States Index 2013”, Pakistan is in the alert category of failed states. The death of father of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam was a serious impairment. With his departure, the newly created state of Pakistan lost its leadership; politically, constitutionally and ideologically.

AN EXPEDITION TO NAYA PAKISTAN 1

Under the corrupt rule, Pakistan reached an appalling political, social, territorial, moral and economic condition. Raymond W Baker in ‘Capitalism's Achilles Heel’ states; on the other side of Earth, a Pakistani banker groused to me, “We have lost the distinction between what is legal and what is illegal. No one hates people who get their money through illegal means. Society is not acting as a restraint.”

People were yearning for change but afraid to speak up. Then came a visionary leader who considered Quaid-e-Azam his role model and followed the philosophy of Allama Iqbal; Imran Khan. The credit goes to Imran Khan for awakening this nation. He exemplified Iqbal’s message in his character and reminded the nation that they should stand up for dignity, self-respect and their justified rights. He wants people to be valiant and fight against oppression, and not be afraid of anyone except Almighty Allah. "I ask my Nation to never accept oppression. Freedom is your right and you must stand for it and fight the oppressors", Imran Khan.

Hazaron Saal Nargis Apni Benoori Pe Roti Hai

Bari Mushkil Se Hota Hai Chaman Mein Deed-awar Paida

The goal of Imran Khan is to provide a trustworthy leadership for refurbishment of Pakistan's social, educational, diplomatic, political and economic dominion. He stood up with a slogan of justice, humanity and self-esteem, a vision for change and a concept of NAYA PAKISTAN, where there will be law and order, social justice, an end to corruption, industrialized institutions, political stability, social harmony, and economic prosperity for all religious, ethnic and racial communities. Khan focuses on establishing a strong accountability and anti-corruption system with an aim to mobilise the people to extricate Pakistan from its present state of despair. He believes that this country is worth fighting for and living in.

On 14th August 2014, Imran Khan started Azadi March to liberate this nation from corrupt system and to bring to justice those who were involved in the massive rigging in 2013 General elections. Elections 2013 were distinct in a sense that youth stood up for the first time to bring a change which could be witnessed from incantation of PTI slogans everywhere before elections. Election Day began with lawlessness beyond anticipation. News channels reported non-operative polling booths in many constituencies. 4 hours after voting time ended, Mr. Nawaz Sharif’s speech was aired over news channels and he was reported as ‘democratically’ elected Prime Minister. It seemed illogical as the votes could never be counted in this small span of time. Nawaz Shareef had not learned the lessons of past; once again, after widespread documented rigging in the 2013 elections, he stands accused of stealing people’s mandate. Later, it was revealed that elections 2013 were the most rigged elections in Pakistan’s history.

AN EXPEDITION TO NAYA PAKISTAN 3

No one but Imran Khan stood up against rigging. He does not believe in the use of force therefore, he went to courts, to ECP, tried everywhere he could to find justice. One and a half year passed but the dilemma of voter who had voted for betterment, development, prosperity and justice was not eased. Ultimately Khan realized that every institution of Pakistan is unjust and corrupt even if it’s the justice giving institution. Finally with no hope of justice, he started Azadi March and came out on streets with a mission to save Pakistan. Azadi March became the struggle against corruption, against the status-quo, the monarchy-disguised-democracy. The voyage was not an easy one. Gullu Butts tried their hardest to disrupt this Azadi March. From attacking the Azadi bus in Gujranwala to Islamabad’s Massacre where shelling, firing bullets and tear-gas at innocent protestors took place, everything was tried to stop this tehreek but the fearless Imran Khan stood there impregnable and led his nation from front. Imran Khan's struggle of 18 years paid off well. He started it all alone; now he has an army of youth by his side. With the Azadi March, golden era of Pakistani politics began; the era of Imran khan and the vision of Naya Pakistan.

Analysts anticipated that PTI supporters & leaders have no endurances and will soon go back but this protest against rigging has now completed over 3 months. Kaptaan has a vision, an ideology and above all he has a staunch belief in ALLAH. He has repeated many times that he won’t leave Azadi Square until Nawaz Sharif resigns. Imran Khan shook foundations of Pakistan's politics, gave sleepless nights to Nawaz Shareef and Zardari who are taking turns to rule Pakistan. Imran Khan is the binding force between people of different backgrounds as PTI does not have an ethnic or racist vision. According to media reports, around 80-90% overseas Pakistanis support Imran Khan as they have witnessed how governments are run, how a country reach glory and magnificence. When they compare their system with our's, it becomes crystal clear why even after 67 years of independence, we have not been able to make a mark in the world. We have not developed our country and utilized our resources the way they should have been utilized. Our feudalistic and kleptocratic governments are busy in their personal motives that they leave country's betterment an inferior cause. Under these governments, the ruling elite kept getting richer while common man kept getting poor. The country’s people, its resources, its territory was exploited for the benefit of a fraction of people. Rights, justice, freedom was buried under the shackles of slavery where people naively served the ruling class. How can Nawaz declare Pakistan suitable for foreign investment when he has more investment outside Pakistan? Why is he afraid to speak up against cruel killings of innocent soldiers at our borders? Just because his businesses and money is in these very nations doesn’t permit him to put Pakistan at stake.

Ours is a country where more than 60% of population is poor. People need basic necessities for survival instead of cosmetic remedies that do not eradicate the root cause threatening the majority. They need a constant source of income that ensures them food twice a day, which in the long run can only be assured through free quality education that leads to a job security. Our Government allocates only Rs. 63 billion for education in the budget 2013-14 as against Rs. 700 billion to defense and Rs. 77 billion to Railways, revealing its clear priorities. In Pakistan, people are more struck in poverty, unemployment, and have less human development. The nation is in a catatonic state. Imran Khan openly speaks against drones, war on terror, unending loans which are piling up, corruption, innocent killings etc. Imran Khan taught us the importance of our vote and provided a platform to raise voice against corruption and tyranny. He made us believe that Pakistan is not a lost cause and that we can expect justice, fundamental rights and impartiality living in Pakistan. He always talks about the improvement in educations, justice, law and order, police, hospitals, energy, poverty, agriculture and what not. He wants to transform Pakistan from Sindh to Khyber. The astonishing support shown at every hook and nook of Pakistan proves that Khan is not alone; the anguished people of Pakistan are with him. A satisfied nation doesn’t protest or grouse. The numbers at Imran Khan’s Jalsas show a clear implication of how unsatisfied and frustrated this nation is.

Through Azadi March, Khan gave us hope and illuminated our hearts with ultimate patriotism. His vision and dedication to his cause appealed people from all classes, casts and age groups. He defined politics in an entirely different way; Honesty, courage and dedication towards advancement. Imran Khan’s speeches, his body language, his determination, his passion, his zeal and zest towards his cause enthusiasts his supporters. Khan’s efforts and motivation help us realize that change and betterment is achievable but to bring a change, we have to stand up against the corrupt ruling elite and fight for our rights. Our people and our land minus these corrupt leaders have every capability of being an exemplary nation. The protest led by Imran Khan is a grass-root level struggle to fight for the human rights of the people of Pakistan; the right to elect their own representatives fairly and the right to stand up firmly against the corrupt regime imposed on them through electoral fraud.

The visionary Imran Khan tells us that morals are what keep a person alive, alive of the situation around him. In his book "Party Politics", Henry Ford says “The only motive that can keep politics pure is the motive of doing good for one's country and its people.” Every day standing on a container Imran Khan tries to instill the morality and ethics taught by our Prophet (saw) into our masses. He is a protagonist of honesty and valour and showed how to love our country, how to be resilient, determined and meticulous. Khan opened our eyes to the fact that politicians are answerable to us for every penny they spend as that is our tax money, not their private property. Under his leadership, a nation is moving forward with Truth, Courage, Selflessness, Merit and Humility before God. He has been continuously telling with proofs how politicians have been looting and plundering Pakistan since its birth in 1947. According to Hamid Mir, “PMLN's hypocrisy has been exposed because of PTI Dharna Azadi Movement". President Putin said that “People who destroy whole nations do not have the right to teach us democracy and the values of living freely”. Azadi Square has become a symbol of unity. It is the place where Pakistani nation rose, where we are all united as one. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians all came together to save their nation, to save their identity.

The thing upsetting for status-quo government is the fact that when a crowd leaves a PTI Jalsa, they leave as transformed people who have become mindful of their rights, their duties and are filled with the courage to stand against them. Youth is standing with the true leader “Imran Khan” and is supporting the party that raised the slogan for “Change”, a real change for democracy, a new Pakistan. The “Go Nawaz Go” campaign which was brought to life at Azadi Square has become viral, globally.

In the eyes of Khan we see a dream; A dream of a better Pakistan, a resilient Pakistan and a flamboyant Pakistan which is not impossible to achieve. His passion towards betterment hits with an earnest realization that Imran Khan could be the solution to Pakistan’s enigma. This might be the beginning of a glorious era where Jinnah’s dream of a united, faithful and disciplined Pakistan will at last be justified through Imran Khan’s struggle. "Pakistan has changed. My nation has woken up!" says Imran Khan. That day is INSHALLAH not far when not only Pakistanis, but the world will be talking of how a nation awakened and reached the glory through the seminal efforts of a visionary leader. Imran Khan will soon be acknowledged with a huge sincere ovation when he’ll revive Pakistan in the comity of World's Nations. 14th August 2014 will be one of those events which will go down into history. In 20 odd years, at least we will be able to raise our heads and tell that we were part of the crowd of freedom warriors, we were the change that Imran Khan dreamt of, and we were Naya Pakistan.

In life, very few people achieve something substantial and even fewer leave behind a legacy, a vision for generations to follow. For each of these men, it takes courage to break boundaries, strength to deal with opposition and immense devotion to keep intact the ideology.
