Let us look back at when MQM was formed. It was made by ordinary yet extraordinary Pakistanis who wanted a voice for injustice. This week, MQM has come a full circle but achieved nothing that its pioneers had aspired to achieve. The role MQM could have played and the role that it has played are two different things. The national uproar against Baldiya Town incident as well as the insult Pakistani women received at the hands of their leader shows how MQM has evolved into an urban mafia with lack of sentiments for a common man.
It is a very rational and logical demand that MQM now disown Altaf Hussain. It is not about winning or losing, this is about the right to live without fear. Karachi does not deserve what MQM inflicts upon it and its inhabitants. Who will speak up for the people that were brutally burnt to death in Baldiya Town incident? It's not a matter of punishing the one person who started the fire but raising the issue about the person who ordered such a heinous act!
As far as Altaf Hussain's statement about Pakistani women is concerned, it was indeed a contemptible act which attacked the integrity and honour of our daughters & mothers.
In 1947 Urdu speaking people who were mostly educated were among the founders of Pakistan. MQM today violates every principle for which those fore fathers gave their sacrifice. The sanctity of life, the right to live without fear, the desire to work and progress together as one nation was all taken away by Altaf Hussain and his vision. How could the people who stood with Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Allama Iqbal & Fatima Jinnah disrespect the daughters of Pakistan?
When someone speaks out against the wrongdoings of MQM, Altaf Hussain allows unrest to spread in Karachi. In his position, allowing chaos is causing chaos. If he had any sincerity for the Karachiites, he wouldn't allow such events in the city because he should know that the people have suffered a history of hardship.
Where is sincerity to the people he claims to represent? Where is honor for the women of Pakistan? Where is respect for the founders of Pakistan? Is this why 20 million founders of Pakistan gave sacrifices for in 1947 so that in random speeches Altaf Hussain could discourtesy them?
It's not a matter of whether MQM should disown Altaf Hussain, time has come that MQM 'must' disown him as their leader. Today, Pakistanis question the federal government of Nawaz Sharif for their criminal silence thus supporting yet another massacre in Pakistan.
