October 30, 2011 was the dawn that rode the tide of Change; Change in the society, thoughts, perception and most controversially the dynamics of political gameplay in Pakistan. Before the nation’s most loved hero there stood a colossal sea of human heads; Imran Khan presided over a public meeting with the citizens of the pulsating capital of Pakistan, its heart, Lahore. However, I have not the slightest of uncertainty in stating that apart from a small fraction of individuals none is acquainted with the hands who made it possible for the flow of communication to remain intact while hundreds of thousands of cellular devices could have put the networks on hold with heavy data bundles; none more than a follower of an ideology and a supporter of Change then he was. The name was Adil Ansari, now the Agent of Change, a Soldier for Justice… more like a Knight of the Round – the Knight of One!
The date was June the tenth in the year two thousand and thirteen when the then member of Pakistan Threek-e-Insaf’s formidable Social Media Team’s (SMT) for the past eighteen months, was entrusted with a responsibility to captain the Twitter fleet of the official SMT forces. Having played a pivotal role on an off the ground, on the front line and at the backend, Adil Ansari took charge of PTI’s official Twitter account, @PTIOfficial, what had the numbers in approximation of a hundred and fifty six thousand (156,000) as its following. That was the beginning of the age that shall belong to no other political entity in Pakistan but the Imran Khan led Pakistan’s Movement of Justice. Today, as these words are appearing on the white sheet by dint of my actions, the very account has a following of a million and four hundred thousand (1.4 Million) Twitter users from every nook and corner of the world, Lahore to Karachi, Chicago to London and Jeddah to Sydney! Ansari has worked day in and day out to have achieved this milestone, a Twitter support base much greater than any of PTI’s political rivals. While working on the account itself, the Captain assembled his own squad, a batch of trusted comrades selected and elected for their skill, vision and dedication. How fortunate am I to have been trusted to be recruited by the same captain in the same squad! The journey had begun: Adil Ansari: Twitter Head PTI!
Keeping records and maintaining them is an arduous task; data management is no child’s play and who thought Twitter could have possessed such a tool itself? Hashtags! Adil Ansari is the pioneer of the methodology in PTI. He carved out hashtags for various activities such as Interviews and Jalsa coverage for the PTI Chairman. You must recognize the tags #IKonARY, #IKonSamaa, #PTI4Lahore, #PTIHaripurJalsa and much more for the count! Each hashtag is specifically designed to serve as a catalogue just like in a library. Type any of the stated in the Twitter search tool and be awed to see when and how the PTI Chairman stated what, that shall not only speak of Imran Khan’s resolve but bring to light Adil Ansari and his team’s engineered database and the hard work and time invested in propagating the word of Change and Justice. Ansari was the first to generate live transcriptions of Chairman PTI’s speeches and his interviews, the tradition set and the legacy carried forward by his comrades. Create a database with his team or monitor the complied, Ansari and his team have put history in an archive. Worth mentioning, hailing from the city of Hyderabad Ansari was the first to have trended a hashtag for Sindhi heritage on the Cultural Day.
“What is Imran Khan and PTI doing in KP?” The question dates back to June 2013 when the party established its maiden government in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkuwa. The answer was to be given because it was available, PTI was working to bring the Change it had promised. A hashtag #KPKUpdates served the purpose, Ansari’’s brainchild and his team’s activism. The hashtag earned enough popularity among the info thirsty that a separate account was created to serve the purpose well.
Together with his trusted team Adil Ansari steered the movement on the internet pulse of the country’s politics, Twitter. He led from the front, voluntarily investing his time, money and energy in party events and managed the chores on the backend surfing through time on Twitter. Member of the PTI SMT Core Committee and Head Twitter Team gave it all he had when the people of Pakistan took it to the streets and staged the historic hundred and twenty six days long Azadi Dharna. A father of two made it to D Chowk, the place we crescent as the Azadi Square, while the sky thundered and the winds charged currents before the daybreak, August the sixteenth last year. Devotion and dedication knows no bounds and so do not Ansari’s endeavors. The demonstrations tragically saw their end having revolutionized much in the country but the Knight of One continued his services to the cause. I have travelled with him to this point, learned from him and have been supported, guided and taught by him; the voyage that commenced two years and two months ago has come to an end. It’s time!
Mr. Adil Ansari resigns as the Head of Twitter Team PTI and I, along my comrades, bid the farewell with a thanksgiving he deserves most. Thank you Adil Bhai for serving the cause, being a support, guide and inspiration. With wishes of a contented life and a successful career within PTI, it’s farewell.
