Law and order situation and Role of Government By Ather Masood Chaudhry

Law and order situation and Role of Government By Ather Masood Chaudhry

Target killing (whether political or sectarian) and killing for extortion money has become an everyday thing in Karachi, people dont even bother to read the news of killing. On an average 10 people are being killed on daily basis, and they don’t even know why! Neither the person who is killed knows why he is killed, nor does the person who is killing knows why he is killing. These are the reported figures and according to different surveys, 80% of the affected people do not report the incident. But the fact of the matter is innocent people are losing their lives without any reason.

If we look at the matter closely, a lot of questions arise:

Who is involved in Target killing and killing for extortion money?

Which class is being targeted?

Why have police and other law enforcement agencies failed to control the situation?

Why couldnt a secure and effective system be developed to address this worsening of Law and Order?

Why 80% of the affected people do not dare to go to the Police Station to lodge an FIR of the incident?

Why majority of them are reluctant to file suits against the culprits?

Public wants to know the answers to these questions, because they elect their leaders to resolve these issues, not for feeding them with their blood! People elect their leaders so they can listen to their problems, and through their position power, devise such rules and regulations that serve best for the people. But unfortunately in our country, (especially in Karachi), leaders are not elected. They just come to power through rigging and money. Leaders without public mandate don’t have any concern for the problems of the people. They have just one concern how to recover their investment they did for coming in power.

As a matter of fact, these so called, self elected leaders are responsible for the killing of innocent people. It is very easy to blame anyone but the point is “Mutahidda Qaumi Movement” a.k.a “MQM” which is in the Govt for the last 25 years, failed to take conclusive steps to address the problems and answer the public questions. In fact, they have always played their “Mahajir” card, whenever they are asked for the reason for not responding to the worsened law and order situation in the city.

One wonders why the political parties who give the rhetoric of “Bring all criminals to justice” start crying and protecting the same criminals!

It will not be wrong to ask those who have been responsible for the City and indeed the province for the past 3 decades in one form or the other that Why Police is not depoliticized in past 30 years? Why proper measures have not been taken to encourage public to register such incidents to police stations? Why police department is not trained how to deal with public?

The answer is simple and known to everyone but not accepted by anyone. For the first time in the History, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has come with a clear stance of exposing this reality fearlessly and to fight against those responsible for the sorry state of the City, the Province and indeed the Country. To raise the public voice against all the injustices and to represent the public at large, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has taken the challenge of bringing awareness in public regarding their rights and duties. Now if Govt fails to overcome this issue, the public will find its own way to get rid of these problems but then Govt will not be able to find a place to accommodate themselves!
