There is an old saying that "health is wealth". A healthy person can work with efficiency to earn wealth, health being most important for a human being . In Pakistan health system is not up to the mark compared to any developing country of the world. In developed countries they give more attention to health system than road networks.
Here in Sindh, the civil hospitals are in a dilapidated condition. The authorities have ignored basic facilities for the public, from thousands of villages and towns of surrounding areas people frequently visit government hospitals, but it is sad to say that the condition is really pathetic! The health situation in the Sindh province, specifically pertaining to those epidemics; preventable and manageable, reflect a general lack of concern and commitment to the sindhi people by the federal and provincial governments.
There are two types of hospital in Pakistan. Private hospitals and government hospitals. Private hospitals are very expensive hence poor people can't afford them whereas, government hospital have no doctors, medicines, medical equipment and facilities.
I recently visited many government hospitals of Sindh. The conditions of these hospitals was heart breaking. There was no electricity, a large number of insects were roaming in the wards. The terrible stench from the toilets could be smelled till the far ends of the corridor, and to think that this is a hospital where cleanliness and providing health care is a primary focus. When I was searching for an on-call doctor, a nurse told me that the on-call doctor was sleeping in an air conditioned room while his patients suffered in the heat outside.
I must say government hospitals are in poor conditions all over Sindh! It shows lack of interest of the provincial government. They took no interest in health system as they did in past. Doctors don't give any proper attention to patients. Due to population increase, the civil hospitals are over crowded which the administration is not able to manage properly.
In KP the provincial government has given much attention to the civil hospitals. They declared a medical emergency and worked on hospitals conditions as soon as the PTI government came in power there. In their last three years tenure, they made doctors so punctual on their duties. Lady Reading hospital of Peshawar is one of the leading civil hospital in Pakistan now. This is what Imran Khan wants for naya Pakistan. Sindh government and health minister should learn from the milestone steps taken by the KP government.
I hope Sindh government would work on it and would stop playing with the lives of poor people of Sindh.
